I've been told that the music I upload on here is too "basic", so should I make something that's really complex or should I not?

Without having listened to it: From how you write about it you seem to agree with the 'basic' statement. I'd say after 135 uploaded compositions you should have the ability to do something more advanced.
Some of our Audio Portal artists have only upload a single-digit number of tracks each year and it seems to work out well for them. ("Quality over quantity" and all that...)
